Used Strava to track a ride for the first time
Discussion
Using my new iPhone. It was for 28miles and wasn't too bad on the battery.
Without realising I completed a few segments. Some I'm quite high up the leader board! To show how random it was today due to the strong wind, I'm also quite low down on other boards
How do I join the ph Strava group?

Its rather addictive isnt it?
Sorry cant help on the PH club but I do have a question regarding this, namely whats the point of Strava 'clubs?'
Do you just get a feed of every ride done by everyone in the club on your dashboard page, or else is there a way of ranking yourself against the other club members on rides youve all done much like you can with the friends tab?
If you know what I mean.....

Yes. Full leaderboard, my results, people I'm following and then a tab for clubs.PH has some depressingly quick riders.
To join just go to http://app.strava.com/clubs/pistonheads and click join.
Just installed Strava over the weekend and accidentally found a couple of segments.
Turns out there are loads of segments local to me, so it's given me something to train against.
Although a few of the segments must have been done on motorbikes!
I don't think I could do the downhill segment in the time some people are posting for the uphill seg of the same hill!

Have to say it has developed an annoying habit of cutting out before I have finished my ride to the station in one direction (lops the last 2-3 miles off - only on that one ride though).
Also, I think it is recording 'fast'.
I don't want to upgrade, as I really don't have £300 to spend on a toy from Garmin for measuring my commute really accurately. And secondly, I don't want to return to earth with a bump by losing 2 mph due to my rides being recorded accurately. (I am happy lying to myself)

Strava user here
and a new bike so looking for some PB's.
Only thing id say some of the speed readings are a tad spurious, I managed 40 mph the other day, on a mountain bike, while not moving
Yeah the mobile phone readings for top speeds are rubbish. One of my work colleagues came in the other day and told me he'd got a new top speed record..... 59.3 mph....... On a single speed.....

There are some very 'questionable' times/speeds on Strava, as long as you are only competing with yourself then it does not matter! If you spend your life chasing the KOM's you will soon get frustrated, aside from the fact someone could frig their GPS trace, or the phone could be having a 'moment' when recording the trace, environmental issues play their part - we all know what a headwind does to your average speed!
Strava is a great way of motivating yourself to ride a little harder though!
