Cycle computers - replacement magnet

I was given a cycle computer for a present recently. The actual computer bit works quite well, but the magnet that attaches to the spokes was housed in a horribly nasty plastic moulding with all the structural integrity of warm chocolate. I overtightened it on the first attempt and now it won't clamp onto the spokes properly, so I keep losing signal.

Presumably any magnet I can attach onto the spokes would work as a replacement? I notice Halfords do one for the grand sum of £2.99.

Coincidentally, how depressing is it fitting a computer? All those places I thought I must be touching 40mph - computer, quite literally, says no...

I lost the magnet from the cateye strada which has been off the bike since I bought the Garmin 200. I actually bought that Halfords one at the weekend so mrspablo could have a working computer too. Its fine, for £3 you cant go wrong.

Someone on the "recently bought" thread recommended these for bladed spokes: http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewitem?itemId=1...

Not sure if they'll work on non-blade (normal) spokes, but would look neat either heat shrunk or electrical tape coated. I've ordered se to give them a try.

Heat shrink would require the removal of a spoke though? I use tubular glue to hold mine on
