Swapping two for one...

So I've got a Yet ASX AM rig that I never ride any more. I've then got a Cotic Soda that I really like and use quite a lot. This is built with mainly XT kit and some 100-130mm Recon (I think!) forks.

I'm toying with selling the ASX (for as little as I'll get for it, no idea what it's worth) and the Soda frame to get a short travel XC/Trail bike and using the Soda components to build it with.

It's been ages since I looked into bikes so the whole 29" thing took me by surprise. Not sure if I want to go down this route, need to try one really.

A friend had suggested something like a Giant Anthem X frame, but I'm curious to hear others thoughts. I'd hope to get £1k together from the ASX and my Soda frame so budget would be around £1000-1200.

In the shorter travel stuff (sub 6") everything seems to be going 29" or 27.5" these days, I'm still not sure - when I hear about all the stability they offer and how it rolls over stuff like it's not there I can't help thinking they might make for capable but boring bikes.

This makes no sense, just buy the 29er as well then you have more choice in the garage/shed.

But that means a 2500+ outlay! It would bee too much of a dent in my car fund.
