Following a previous thread I decided to buy a Garmin 500 and took it out for its first proper trip today setting a course to follow first. I cycled to Sandringham, about 25 miles and all had gone well, my speed seemed in line with what I normally do, 14-16mph. The only thing it kept doing was auto-pausing even wile I was cycling at my usual speed and saying that it had lost the course and then realigning even though I hadn't strayed from the course. The auto pause was not set to come on below a certain speed, only stopped.

Towards the end of the route I noticed that it was only reading I was doing 8mph but it felt a lot faster. I also felt it wasn't clocking up my total distance. I pulled out my iPhone and tracked the last section of my route, and set a lap section on the Garmin to compare the two when I got in.

From the segment I got the following data:
Iphone Strava: ~6miles (which is right)
Garmin 500 / Garmin Connect: ~3miles (so its only readin half what I was doing).

Any idea what's gone wrong, how I can fix it or what I may have changed unknowingly?

Below is the whole route:
http://www.strava.com/activities/46307637 which shows 50.2miles
Under the segments/laps section of strava it only shows 35.8miles

Garmin Connect:

Duff unit, send it back to Wiggle?
Any ideas?

Losing the course isn't unusual. But it shouldn't be auto pausing or under reading - sound like it's losing the GPS signal. Try putting a call into the Garmin help desk.
