How long does a rear tyre last?

Spotted it at work and wondered should I call the wife to come and get me or chance it.

I chose the later and made it the 11miles home, avoiding bumps, twigs and gravel!

I am planning a big ride in the morning so my only replacement option was a Gatorskin from Halfrauds. Hope that is an acceptable tyre!

replaced my last rear one due to excessive baldness after about 2k miles but it wasn't as bad as yours

I've not a had problem with the Gatorskins so as you were, but please oil that chain.

or swable marathons which have done 4000 miles (2500+....its a 16 inch tyre size)

It had just done 60miles of commute over the previous 3 days. I was planning on cleaning it this weekend.
