Chinese Carbon Wheels - Hmmmmm

Has anyone had any experience with them or heard any tails of them?

A friend of mine has been using them for 3 years or so and hasn't said a bad word about them. He's pretty well clued up as well.

Just thought id see if there were other opinions out there.

The Novatec hub ones seem like a great deal and at 1400g ish for the tub versions they should knock a fair bit of weight from my bike too.

What other options might there be for about £350ish?

Just be careful who you buy from as quality of the materials/wheel build and weight vary massively. I looked into it for some time and went with Farsports as where by far the best reviewed and any issues that people had they dealt with very quickly.

I went with 38mm Carbon Clinchers and have put just over 1000 miles on them in a mixture of racing and training on the road with some very hard hits on pot holes etc and have remained 100% true. I went with Bitex Hubs and Sapim CX Ray Spokes.

Loads of threads on bike radar and weight weenies on carbon stuff from china, well worth a look. From memory "carbon_zone" was a reputable supplier but worth checking... Most rims will be gigantex and as hubs and spokes are stated, you can get a good idea of quality.

PX carbon wheels @ £399 - at least you'd be dealing with a UK co. if you had any problems?

Someone on here was raving about them not long ago AFAIK (red hubs I think). I've been very tempted on occasion.

I bought the 38mm carbon clinchers from Farsports - £380 all in, including the tax/duty, etc. No prblems with mine and I use them for time trials and sportives.

There are a few Chinese manufacturers out there. Quality is getting better, but at a price around one third what you would pay for 'branded' wheels, you get what you pay for.

I got some 50mm tubs with Novatech hubs from Baixiang Bike for less than £300 at the end of last year. Got the tyres glued a couple of weeks ago and have used them for some fast club rides and a race. They seem fine, roll well and are light. Time will tell how durable they are.

weightweenies is the best source for feedback on these wheels. Massive thread with lots of contributions from informed people.

Wheelsmith will hand-build using Gigantex rims - carbon tubular, carbon clincher or carbon/ally clincher.
