What do you use to shave your legs? Normal razor+gel or hair removal cream?

I use clippers, trim it down to a still manly but less wolf like level, looks sleak but not womanly.

Don't- Hairy legs are more aerodynamic, the hairs help establish a boundry layer and reduce turbulance.

Or Man-up and use the side of a hunting knife, slick with the blood of fresh roadkill, extra man points if you ran it over with your bike.

Is it really worth it? How much benefit would you get from shaved legs?

It's not for me, thanks whistle

Not aerodynamically I doubt, more for the benefit of road rash on the legs, i.e. easier to clean up afterwards.

I believe there are two significant benefits; one is how much easier it is to pick bits of the road out of your skin if/when you have a meeting with the tarmac, second is if/when you have a meeting with the tarmac the road rash heals much quicker if there isn't a mat of hair covering it and pulling on the newly formed skin!

To be less pedantic - it is the road rash, not the turbulence that's the problem (although for swimming, it's a massive gain)

I just try not to fall off - but then I've not got he hairiest legs in the world anyway.

Razor is the only real answer.

Massage is a little easier with sahved legs - particularly in a sport that has traditionally gone in for all manner of embrocation.

I'm still of the opinion that it's more about complying with the rules of the group and being accepted as a "proper cyclist" than anything else. wink

And I do other sports where people would think I was a massive homo if I did it tongue out

I assume it must become quite a commitment, in that once you've done it there's no turning back.

Kinda, I did it for 'charidy' last year. When raising money for my L2B ride I said that if I doubled my target I would shave my legs as well as doing the ride - I set a decent target so didn't expect to have to actually 'do the deed'. Long story short, a mate of mine saw I was £50 short of doubling my target so made up the difference just to make me suffer!

PITA to shave them but even more uncomfortable to let it grow back! On the upside I did meet with the tarmac a couple of weeks ago (after being knocked off), my knee was much easier to clean without a wookie like covering, and the graze had healed up within a week.

Also (and nobody will actually admit to this), if you work fecking hard on a bike and have well defined muscles (even if the legs themselves are not much thicker than a sparrows) why on earth cover them with a layer of hair!
