Need a new Mech Hanger

I was out on my MTB this morning - braving the cold with a friend and on the way back home I managed to break my Mech hanger so I need to replace it. I have a GT Avalanche Expert (2009). I usually shop on Wiggle but they only have a small range in stock (err, 4 to be precise) so I need to find another outlet with them. I know Evans has them but wanted to see if there was anywhere cheaper. It is a GT MHGT62 if that helps.

Because of course I hadn't considered that very simple move myself - how else do you think I managed to find them in Evans? I'm after the less well known places that Google isn't showing up. I think £14 is a bit steep for a small piece of machined aluminium - and I know how much CNC work costs as my father is in that game so before I get any more smart answers that are better saved for the lounge, how about some genuine, honest help please?

Not being funny but the hanger did it's job. At £14 it saved you breaking the frame. it isnt just to hold the rear mech, it is a deliberate weak point.

You could have a local chap cut you one for a tenner, but if it is stronger than the frame it bolts to you'll bend the frame next time.

Again, thanks - I know what they are for and what they do - I was not asking that question - I was asking where ELSE (with exception of a random Google) I might expect to be able to BUY one.

That's how much they are. Suck it up. Or get a bit of plate steel and cut it with an angle grinder. I'm sure it'll be much the same....

Quit yer bellyaching and get it bought,
Mine cost me £21 for the Rockhopper, and to add insult to injury it took the chain and bent the deraileur, so yeh, a wee bit more than £14

Thanks for the constant berating - suffice to say I ordered them (2 - one to use and 1 spare) from Evans on Saturday.

If I attack this issue from another viewpoint though - they are a replaceable item, considered a consumable, so why don't more than 1 outlet stock them? There are MANY different shops selling brake pads/disks for the various brake systems out there so why aren't there more outlets selling Mech hangers?

Its more a case of even within the same model / brand, the mech hangers vary year on year they are not a generic item, best advice is when you but a new frame / bike buy a couple of hangers too

This is a cautionary tale from someone who had to order a couple direct from Germany.

They are very specific to the frame/model.

£14 is fk all for a bike part.
