I had my commuting bike's bottom bracket replaced recently along with a new chainset. Now maybe this is a psychological thing based on the fact I can put more torque through the gears without them slipping, but I could swear I now get more advantage from tilting the bike side to side when I'm pedalling.

It's not a technique I've ever really found any benefit from before, but suddenly it seems to ... well, work. I wonder if that's because the crank is now held more securely?

Seems a strange little thing to improve pedal efficiency, but there must be other such examples.

I assume you mean when out the saddle? Or you might end up in the nearest ditch smile

When putting power down standing up it's pretty hard not to throw the bike about a bit, but in reality you probably get more power down on the road without it.

Unless it's a very steep hill I don't tend to go properly out the saddle on the road bike, but I guess I must be far enough up to clear it.
