What cheap road bike?

Sorry if this thread has been done to death all ready. I'm after a cheap road bike to do a bit of cross training on when my legs are too sore to run and maybe( the occasional long ride. Not after anything fancy with clip on pedals etc. I was hoping to spend under £400 ideally. I 5ft11 if that makes any difference. Have Halfrauds got anything worth looking at? Thanks in advance.

I was in Decathalon last night and had a nose around their Triban 3 @ £299. For the money I reckon it'd be hard to beat and might even buy myself one to hack around in next winter.

The B'twin Decathlon road bikes seem to have a good reputation, however at £400 I would be looking on Bikeradar or eBay for a second hand Specz, GIANT, Felt or similar.....

I've very nearly bought one. Seems better spec'd than other bikes in the same price range.

My Decathlon MTB has been great too (diff price range though) .

+ 1 from what everyone says the Triban 3 is the way to go. Hoping to get mine next month when I get paid and the money saved will allow you to buy kit, helmet, jacket, bottle etc

Just rang my closest store (Sheffield) they don't have any in stock.

I was having a look for a 60cm version in Bham Decathlon and they were out of stock. Chatting to the bike guy who seemed to know his stuff he said they were about to update the range, along the lines of a slightler cheaper (£279) entry bike but no carbon fork, then a 399 bike and a 499 version with better specs.
