Storage and security

I am looking for recommendations on ways of storing our bikes.

We currently have 5 adult bikes (mainly mtb) in the garage and am thinking of putting them up on the wall somehow. Does anyone use the wallmounted hooks whereby the bike is held verically? Are they any good or is there a better solution?

My son is about to buy a new MTB for serious money and not only does it need to stored where it won't get scratched/bent but he also needs to secure it in some way. Once again recommendations are welcome.

The garage is locked but any serious crim would not have any difficulty in getting in (although we live in a low crime area)

Don't worry, there will still be room to put the car in the garage too!

I used to hang 3 bikes vertically in a previous garage with no problems. Still got the brackets so will probably go down the same route once a new garage is built where we now live.

Can't help on the bike security side but machine mart do a range of security stuff so might be worth a look.

2 years ago my up and over garage was broken into and 2 MTBs and some tools were taken
Since replacing the 2 bikes and getting a road bike I've fitted one of these;

I also have 2 simple bolt locks on each side.

Having fitted these locks I can see some faults with them and I'm sure anyone with enough determination could get in but it's more than likely they'll attack a less secure garage instead!

Having had 2 expensive mountian bikes taken from the garage (also in a low crime area) in December, a hunt on pistonheads for garage security revealed these

Great bits of kit, discrete and can be operated from both inside and out. I've fitted those and a motorcycle ground anchor and heavy duty chain. The bas**rds aren't getting the new ones (bit of upgrade of course, every cloud has a silver lining )
