Frame respray / refinish

Anyone had it done professionally?

I got my old bike out at the weekend for the first time in probably 5 years!

It's an early 90s rigid frame and fork from Columbus tubes, but is a quality piece of kit with lovely fillet brazing etc. Anyway, I'm thinking of stripping it back and getting it painted. Anyone any experience of this?

Yes, via Roberts Cycles in Croydon. Little did I know that they outsource it, and their paint jobs are terrible. Like coloured butter.

If I had a lovely bike that needed renovating, I'd send it to Argos Cycles. Otherwise I'd get it powdercoated somewhere cheap locally.

My mate used Atlantic Boulevard & was very pleased. I've seen the work by Rick Powell & that is very good, especially on steel frames.

Those 'Seaside Rock' bars looks amazing, I'd not like to ride sans bar tape but the finish is admirable to say the least.

Thanks all, Martyn that looks great, and from the era that I'm familiar with - non of this modern aheadset stuff lol!

Quite some years ago, between my Dad and I, we handpainted the frame, and it still sports a load of random stickers that inevitably came free with MBUK (it reminds me of the 'shopping list' approach to car doors!) , it may even have a mint sauce on the headtube....

I'd love to get it refinished and have the frame decaled with some small Columbus stickers, but I just cant remember what type of tube it was It's possible that the old stickers are floating around my parents house somewhere, will need some to locate them!

I bought the bike secondhand BITD, and it was (IIRC) marked up with the makers name 'Bicycle Chain'. I can't find out anything about them via google tho - anyone remember them?
