Front brakes jamming after wheel release

Not sure about the discs but with mechanical brakes: sometimes when there is slack on the cable, the outer cable can come out of the sleeves anywhere along the length of the cable.
Release them again and check is the outer cable snagged on the frame anywhere, the most common place for it to get caught is at the adjuster barrel where the cable meets the brakes (not sure if v-brakes have this, haven't used v's in a long while)

My money's on some form of this. My MTB does just this with the cable outer falling out of where it goes into the brake lever. Just need to make sure it's all where it should be before clipping the cable back onto the brake.
