Best "Cycle Scheme" bike (sub £1000)

Looking at getting a road bike through the cycle to work scheme, the whole lot has to be sub 1k so after £150ish on goodies looking at 800 ish for the bike.

good value can be had from last seasons sale bikes, so of you had 800 to spend what would you buy??

will be used for;

7km commute daily
The odd ride around town and to sites
weekend rides 60-100km
the odd tri when my knee recovers

I've just bought a Boardman from Halfords. Tried it a few times, don't know what it's going to be like over plenty of miles but it's well worth considering.
