Which saddle for light road use??

Hi All,

I have a Brooks Team Pro saddle which is still not worn it but my rear is so sore and I just want to give up on it now and move onto something else.

Can anyone please recommend a saddle that is light, looks leathery/retro, is not too wide and would suit some light road/touring use and is very forgiving on my bum?

I was look at the Selle saddles but am open to other makes as well, I just don’t want anything too flashy/leery with logos all over the place.

For something a bit more pricey maybe a San marco Regal

Another vote for the Charge Spoon, I bought one after seeing it recommended by a few people on here, and I certainly don't regret it

My bike came with a Fizik Arione. I hated it. It was the most uncomfortable saddle I'd ever encountered. I sold it to a chap who swore by Arione saddles, and thought they were the most comfortable saddle ever made.

I replaced the Arione with a Specialized Romin Evo Expert, which I think is possibly the most comfortable saddle ever made. I bought it from a guy who'd used it about twice, and thought it was the most uncomfortable saddle ever made.

All of which is a long-winded way of saying "nobody on the internet can tell you what saddle will be right for you, because we all have different-shaped arses". You should find a decent LBS who can sort out some saddles for you to try for a day and find the right fit that way.

It's a very personal thing saddles, some of it I think comes down to short choice and the layout of your pelvic bones, I'm finding the Fizik tundra very comfortable, but equally I have an old rolls ti on my mtb which is also comfortable. If you find a helpful fizik dealer they should have a box of test saddles so you can try before you buy.

I have Charge Spoons on both of my MTB's, highly recommend one for the money. Comfy, reasonably durable and look quite nice.

How much do you want for the brooks?

Am struggling, have looked at various types and styles, varying prices and am getting fed up. I would look and try some but the only big bike shops in my area of Hertfordshire (Knebworth) is Halfords, so that’s not much use to me.

I like the look of the Charge Pan, The San Marco Rolls, Concor etc but I really like the Gilles Berthoud Aravis (which obviously costs a lot more). I don’t want to spend any more money without at least seeing what I am buying in person.

Does anyone know the Home Counties area and can recommend a shop that has a good stock of saddles and ideally would stock the ones I have mentioned above?

PS: To the person who asked how much I want for my saddle, I am selling it via bidding which is why I haven’t said how much I want. If you want to know more then PM me. I cant say anymore without getting my post deleted.

The brooks team pro's are notoriously hard and slow to break in. have you tried giving a proper soaking on the undersides with proofhide or neats-foot oil? Its well worth the effort in the end ( ber dum tish)

Thanks, I have decided to keep my Team Pro Vans, it really looks amazing on the bike. I am going to treat is more with Proofide and Neats as you suggested because I have found other sites where the Team Pro seems to be the one that takes the longest to wear in, just my luck.

I am going to get a Charge Pan Bill …… saddle as well in the meantime as a back up and sell my B17 World Traveller, the brown saddle colour on the B17 just looks wrong on the bike
