OK, so we've all got some story about crappy prices or customer service, but whoever chooses the stock at Evans really knows their stuff.

They really don't sell any crap, and I commend them for it. It must be tempting for them to sell a £150 full-suspension mountain bike to try and rob a few sales from Argos, but they pick the stock very carefully.

I managed to break a saddle and took it to a store last week expecting them to send it off to Specialized before letting me know if I'd get a free new one, but instead if they'd had one in stock I'd have walked out with it there and then.

Anyway having dropped it off last Thursday I picked up a replacement on Tuesday, so I'm impressed.

Generally quite good. Managed to screw them for a plenty of discount and frebies, whilst still qualifying for 0% finance, unlike some shops where it was use the finance at reatil, or have the discount (which is understandable really)

I tried 5 2K road bikes (took them out for a ride around the block) and ended up with a Willier Izoard XP.

Having siad that, I prefer to use a smaller local shop for bits and bobs, and more personal advice.

My LBS is evans, and the guys go out of their way to help you. It's improved greatly since they sacked the last manager too, as he seemed to sap moral in the place

They can be a bit hit and miss, dependent on the shop you go into. My nearest is really only good for getting stuff delivered to off the net. Their service department had been very shonky in the past. Other ones I've been to in the past have been manned by enthusiastic cyclists who really knew their stuff. (Kendal, amongst others.)

Like any big chain, some are better than others.

Picked up some SPD-SL pedals in store at the weekend. As I got a fair few other bits & pieces it was only when I got home did I realise that a £26.99 product had become £39.99 as I had purchased it at the "pay here" counter instead of ordering at one of the terminals in-store!

I only noticed after fitting them so I am not going to go to the trouble of trying to return them but do you think that if I email them with links to other sellers they will offer me some form of credit under their price match promise?

If they do, buy another pair for £27 and take them back on the £40 reciept.

Their sticker prices are expensive, but they price match and are happy to do that from a web page shown on the iphone. And they'll do free delivery as well if they don't have it in stock so often works out the cheapest way to buy something!
