Front mudguard for Hardtail MTB, any that work?
Discussion
I commute on my mountain bike, which has Rock Shox Reba front forks and disk brakes. I currently have a traditional Crud Catcher mudguard which is totally useless when it's raining.
Is it possible to get a full front mudguard onto a bike with front suspension? I'm not bothered about it being easy to remove as the bike rarely gets used off-raod these days. I have had a look on the web but it's never clear whether they fit MTB forks. Recommendations welcome.

i use a topeak defender m2, its superb.

unlike the crudcatcher type it stops all the spray from the front wheel and it works when your turning.
you can get the front and rear guards for about 25 quid online. ( think halfords do them on offer)
theres a cheaper, all black version but this lacks the clear, soft plastics on the edge of the mudguards and the finish isnt as nice as the m1/m2 guards.

The NeoGuard Neoprene thingy works well for me:

Can't compare to anything else though as it's the only thing I've used but was a massive improvement over nothing - funny that...

That's similar to the Bender Fender I use - works well for shielding your face. I doubt either would be good for commuting though - not enough coverage.http://reviews.wiggle.co.uk/7867-en_gb/5360042909/...

glad to help.
i spent ages looking for this type and tried 4 different bike shops but they only sold the crudcatchers so got it off amazon for 13 quid.
its light and the quality of the plastics is very good plus the "blades" are detatchable from the base for easy cleaning.
make sure its the m1/m2 as the plastics are far superior to the plastics on the fx/rx models.

im sure you will like them.
i cant give a longevity report on my mudguards though as that bike got robbed off me last november.
still not able to ride a bike yet either so iv missed out on all the nice riding weather this year.
when i do start riding again im definatly going for the m1/m2 again as i was more than happy with them.

Used to use mudguards but stopped a couple if years ago; too much clogging up, too many breakages. I now just wash my clothes more often!
Agree with that, I wouldn't bother with them offroad. Mine will purely be for road use as I'm tired of arriving at work during the autumn/winter with a wet arse! I'm hoping that it'll also stop my backpack getting filthy from spray off the rear tyre.Gassing Station | Pedal Powered | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
