I've agreed to do this next year but the people I'm doing it with will be away abroad for most of the time prior so its up to me to organise it all.

my first main question is how did you map your route or plan it? did you use someone else's. We plan on doing it in a relatively fast 8 days.

When you have your route how do make sure you follow it on the ride? did you use a sat nav with a pre planned route on it or a gps device or even a app?

I have found other web sites with forums on this but thought It would be good to have something on this site for others to use too.

I'm looking at doing it next year.

I know a bloke who did it about 10 or 12 years ago. He is digging out the details of routes etc, and hopefully I am picking details up in the next few days from him, so I will let you know what info I get.

A mate and I have decided to do it next year. Due to time restrictions, we're going to have to do it in six days. Although, it can't be that hard, a bloke who works in the bike shop near my old work did it in 44 hours...

Ha ha....yes, and I'm guessing it's the record holder, Gethin Butler... I'm sure there aren't many people who could do it in the same time. smile

Planning 2014 for me. Just think we need a bit more time as mates are quite disorganised, although one has had a busy day at work, allegedly and been researching today. Know my ex track mentor did it non stop on fixed wheel in the 60's.
Found him........

Breaking it down into 8 days we will be stopping at the following places

JOG to Inverness
Inverness to Pitlochry
Pitlochry to Moffatt
Moffatt to Penrith
Penrith to Whitchurch
Whitchurch to Gloucester
Gloucester to Okehampton
Okehampton to LE

the pain now is researching every route to take into account best roads for gradient and ease as this will be the key to the 118 miles a day.

Hi there as Al said I did this last year although at a slightly more leisurely pace than you are intending and the other way round.

I still have our route maps if they would be useful to you, but suspect your route will need to be more direct if you are planning an eight day trip!

Feel free to drop me a PM if you want more info, meanwhile if you are truly bored I did keep a blog!

I'd seriously consider going the other way for 4 reasons.

1. The prevailing wind is into your face JOG-LE.
2. There will be more sun in your face JOG-LE.
3. You'll be less visible (safe) JOG-LE, because of the sun as above.
4. Land's End is a little easier to get to than JOG (unless you already live in Scotland.

Celebrities doing these trips usually go north to south but that's because the media can't be bothered to get to JOG, but they might travel to Land's End.

I did a 7 day JOGLE last year on a similar route to that:-

John O'Groats -> Inverness
Inverness -> Kinross
Kinross -> Carlisle
Carlisle -> Lymm
Lymm -> Welsh Bicknor
Welsh Bicknor -> Exeter
Exeter -> Lands End

Used a Garmin 705 preloaded with each days routes and it worked a treat with the Garmin maps loaded. Didn't work so well for those just with the basemaps. I've also got a load of very detaied route sheets that were done by someone who is used to planning audaxes. One slight problem with the route is that we did extra miles each day as one of the guys wanted to do the JOGLE 200k/day audax challenge.

The idea behind doing JOGLE instead of LEJOG is we all live around Cheltenham so possible could persuade someone to come and pick us up from LE a bit easier then JOG.

If anyone has any maps they could send me it would be really appreciated. Breaking down the roads between the stops is a pain and im sure a little inside knowledge could avoid some annoying hills ha
