Grippy 700c Road tyres
Discussion
I had some amazing tyres.
They were slicks that could take 140 psi and had unreal grip on a dry road, pretty handy on ice too. Wet was another matter and I had my biggest crash ever on a wet patch crossing a corner from a burst pipe.
I can't remember the make but couldn't find new ones when I was looking so I would be interested in answers too.

I'd recommend gp4000s too, but in 25mm. I've recently switched from 23mm and the difference is night and day. Same rolling resistance and grip on smooth surfaces. However the 25mm are far less twitchy grip wise on anything but rough surfaces and provide a much less harsh ride. The 23mm had a tendency to bounce across less-smooth (i.e. normal) road surfaces, which has resulted in a few front-end slides, hence my switch to 25mm!

The man, he speketh sense! On my 2nd set of GP4000S' in 25mm (having previously run them in 23mm), and they rock my cycling world. Was running them at 70-80psi today (accidentally!) and they were oh-so-smooth, and felt just fine. If I was braver and didn't value my rims/tubes so much, I'd have left them like it. Normally run them at 95psi and still get a magic carpet ride quality.

Schwalbe Ultremo R1 get my vote: roll really well and grip unbelievably well in the corners. They feel pretty grippy in the wet too but I'm not brave enough to push them as hard as they'll go!
+1 for the Schwalbe Ultremo, although I think the R1's are only available as a clearance item now, in limited colours. (I bought a pair with orange stripes direct from Schwalbe at the Olympic Road Race event at Denbies Wine Estate in Dorking). I believe the current incarnation is the Ultremo ZX.(edited for spelling)

I've got GP4000s on my race wheels and R1's on my training wheels as they were £15 a pop in Pink
GP4000s is a great tyre, it does cut though, but apart from hitting a huge hole on Saturday I've not had a flat all season on them, and some of the conditions I've raced in this summer have been horrific. They grip very well too, but I must say I am certainly holding the tyres back when cornering, I know riders who go a lot faster round corners that I do.
The R1's I've only had limited exp with really, one was brand new and blew up in a race, then I bought two more and so far they have been fine in the few hundred I've put on them I certainly didn't notice much difference in grip, and if anything they wheelspun up hill more than 4000's do.
