I don't eat anything before a commute ride 20 miles. But for a bigger ride, say 50 or more I'd have a bowl of shredded wheat or porridge.

I have enough fat to burn so tend to just take a pocket of jelly babies for a kick.

However on a really long day, a tin of pineapple slices has occasionally found a way into my pocket.....

Nothing special unless it's over 50 miles.

Once over 3 or 4 hours i might have a cereal bar, flapjack or some cake or something.

Couple of bananas before, granola or cereal bars during, then usually a proper meal once I get in. That's usually down to the timing of my rides though.

Before: Just some bread & butter & a cup of tea that the Azerbaijan family who put me up last night gave me.
During: 2 Snickers bars, 2 rock hard cakes that almost broke my teeth, 2 bottles of Fanta, 1 bottle of Sprite & 1 bottle of peach juice.
After: 2 kebabs, 1.5 litres of beer, 1 litre of 7-Up.
Distance today: 145km from just over the Georgia / Azerbaijan border to a town called Ganja.

50 miles I'd have a jam sarny before and take a bottle of water. Have a gel just incase but would not likely use it.

80 miles would have some snacks on the way and two bottles. Probably have two gels over that distance and some carb electrolyte drink.

Normally do most rides after breakfast so:

Before - Porridge & Coffee
During - Nothing up to 30/40 miles, cereal bars over that. Always take electrolyte drinks, normally 750ml per hour depending on sweating/temperature.
After - Whatever's in the house, water, normally sandwiches or something.

It's a bit of a null question as it depends where you start weight wise (or body fat %), and how far/fast you are going.

If you are carrying a load of extra weight and go out for a long easy ride you might get away with eating not a lot, and burning mainly fat. If you are a racing snake and go out for a 60 mile blast then you are going to need a lot of carbs in your system.
