what MTB Helmet with good ventilation.

does any one have any recommendations for reasonably priced (sub £100) well ventilated helmets, in the recentish warmer weather I am finding my helmet too hot. When I stop after a hard climb and lean froward I get sweat pouring out of my helmet, which is seriously unpleasant. So what should I be looking for or what should I avoid?

I've just bought a Specialized Tactic, only £55 from Hargroves Cycles.

I spent 3 days riding the trail centres in South Wales a couple of weeks ago, when it was really hot. This was much better than my old Giro Helmet, it has extra ventilation holes below the peak

I've got a Tactic too - it's my only experience of a bike lid and I'm very happy with it. I'm a fat knacker so I tend to get hot easily. Before wearing proper helmet, I wore a baseball hat because I like the peak. When I switched to a proper helmet, I was amazed at how it seemed to duct air to my head - it almost seems better with the helmet on than without it.

Generally forget I'm even wearing mine which is the highest praise you can have for a helmet IMHO.

Another +1. Depends on the "shape" of your head, but if you suit Giro then the Hex is ideal. Good amount of coverage and well vented. I use mine for commuting rather than MTBing and find it very comfy.

Fox Flux 2011 model for me - nothing comes close for the price, nice and comfy and keeps me cool.

They look interesting bit they look like a pot to boil your head in, how good is the cooling?

Had mine over 18 months now and ridden in an Aussie summer with it. Air flow is great and the front pad has a special coating to stop sweat dripping into your eyes. Lightweight as well considering its looks. Peak and straps are adjustable to the nth degree as well and build quality is superb. IMHO if you can live with the looks which I love then you won't be disappointed.

For best ventilation you should look at the roadies lids that have been "converted" for XC use (usually just stick a peak on the front) . I have a Giro Athlon which is very good, very well ventilated and doesn't make you look like a Mario Bros mushroom when riding.

I have been very impressed by POC lids (bit out of suggested price range). They only have a few ventilation holes but air is ducted around the inside very effectively and they provide a large amount of protection. The big purple one should be avoided !

Not sure the Urge ones are for me, as I can't seem to get them to sit on my head comfortably, so what to look at next?

POC Trabec would be my second choice. I've got a POC full face cortex flow and it fits like a glove.
