DH front wheel

got knocked off this arvo, front wheel took a battering



although I bought this DH bike (mongoose single black Diamond) I'm not really into DH in any way, had some fun on it but now use it on road all the time, hence the basket and bar raisers





when you've stopped laughing can I get some ideas on where on earth I'd shop for a new wheel, hub combo that'll fit straight on, searched mongoose spares but no go, I'm guessing there's a million different hubs etc that match these forks, maybe I'm wrong? I have no clue tbh

which seems right on the face of things, 20mm hub, is this the hole size for the spindle?

doesn't seem to be anywhere to fit the disc onto though

Measure your hub!

I'd suggest checking your fork carefully for damage, including the steerer tube!!!

Also, perhaps this is the perfect time to buy a road bike rather than ride about town on a DH bike?

I see what you mean, I'm happy with the tank though tbh, its big weight means harder work which is good for my type of training, puts good dents in cars to as it turns out

the hole in the hub measures 20mm, is this standard then, steering and forks are fine, the bike was laying down by the time his car parked on it.

I echo getting the forks checked too.

That wheel looks like it's got 6-bolt IS fixings on the other side of it. Bit of a basic listing not to note whether what brakes it's compatible with.

merlin cycles would be my first point of call. just had a pair of wheels built and delivered and they are superb. hub looks like a 20mm bolt thro, you maybe limited on choice as cheap OEM stuff is hard to find and aftermarket stuff is pricey.

massive props for using it as a town bike!

Just get a spare wheel off eBay or STW/Pinkbike or if you want to keep the hub, just buy a new rim and get it laced to the old hub.

Superstar components have a wheel builder on their site selecting hubs, rims spokes etc, you may be able to get a new rim and rebuild from the existing hub.

Simples.
The best and probably cheapest solution is to count the number of spokes (most likely 32) and buy a new rim. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?Mod...
Then take the new rim to a bike shop and then get them to lace it to the old hub.

Before that though I would cut the old wheel out (rim and spokes are now junk) and fit the hub to the forks to make sure alls well. The disc looks bent in the photos, no?

I like the idea of using the old hub as I think this'll be the difficult bit, disc is ok by the looks, will check fitted to hub & spin in forks.

think I remmeber decathlon building wheels when I was in there last, we're in France so a mail order rebuild service I think could be a headache, needs to be a walk in solution for rebuild or complete wheel through post, other guys fault so i'm not paying, I local solution would work ongoing if any probs.

A tad harsh but I do agree to an extent plus I'm in the market for a full susser;-)


OP: You must enjoy the extra training, in my experience riding with 2.3inch tyres on road is like doing twice or three times the distance compared with skinnys, fair play!

ridiculous things are my speciality

would love a go on a really light skinny road bike, i reckon it'd feel like riding thin air to me, bet I'd be damn quick (still like my shopping basket on the front though )

ebay item was the correct wheel but by the time he answered my question it had sold

so took the old one into our local specialist bike shop, he reckons he can get a complete wheel, awaiting price but not holding breath

Sorry, that's so uncool it's actually cool.

You're choices are:

Take it to a bike shop (remove basket first) and ask for a new rim to be fitted to your hub. Your hub is a cheap OE type one, but for your use it'll be fine. You can get a cheap disc for very little too.

Use something like this:

It will let you buy a wheel to your own spec, for your use you could spec a 20mm hub and a light XC rim, bear in mind this wheel won't last long if you decide to use the bike for it's intended use.

Or spec another DH wheel.
