New Road Pedals?

I really need to swap out my old battered Wellgo pedals for something a little more upmarket.

Would love some carbon Ultegras but I'm not spending daft money. It's a minefield out there and ive no idea what to look for so any suggestions on something light yet solid around the £50-70 mark?

Based on my experience SPD-SL and Look feel and work exactly the same, but I'm running Look Keo Easy because they're lighter and I find them easier to clip in to.

Looking at your price range on Ribble you have a choice between those two makes, Ritchey, Exustar, Time or Mavic!

I've seen them at that price before: tempting, huh?

I've got look keo's with red cleats and I can't fault them. Easy to use.

I've not had any experience with others however

Shimano Ultegra 6700s for £70ish from the likes of Merlin, Rosebikes.de etc. A teeny, tiny bit heavier than others, but for what little you lose (gain?!) in weight, you gain tenfold in durability. Best bearings bar none.

Agreed, Shimano pedals are second to none when it comes to durability and functionality. They're not the lightest but once fitted you can simply forget about them as they just work.

I've found the Shimano Cleats to be more durable than the Look Cleats too. (Along with the same issue with the pedals.)

No idea about the Mavic stuff, but I do have a spare set of Mavic Cleats in my box of bits, I'm not really sure why...?

Speedplay every day of the week for me. And not because wiggo uses them, I had them first

Completely adjustable float from free floating to locked. Easiest pedals ever to get into/out of. As easy as flat platform pedals in fact

Only downside is you have to look after them (bearings need greasing, cleats need occasional lube etc).

I use the Light Action model, which is just free floating.

I have Time pedals, and really like them. However, if I was in your position now, I would be looking at Speedplay.

Ultegras - fit and forget, and you don't have to replace the cleats very often, which makes more of a difference than you'd think.

I've gone with the carbon Ultegras. They just seemed too good not to buy at that price.
