What hybrid thread

As per the title really. I want to buy a hybrid bike for weekends (bit of fitness and all that). I want to spend around £350 max. There seems to be a lot of choice. Bike shops seem to suggest that the most expensive bike they have in stock is the right one for me, so I thought I'd seek some independent advice before making a purchase.

Any recommendations will be gratefully received.
