Hardtail frame reccomendations

Thought I might get some differing views here than the usual STW contenders. Selling the Pitch, going back to Hardtail. There is a definite pattern of me riding less when I have a F/S bike than a hardtail, then I 'upgrade' and the riding tails off. Odd, but thats how it is, and thats how its been for the past 5 years or so in a constant cycle - I'll never learn.

Steel frame, maybe Alu if its good and lively. Will take a 140mm fork and a big rear disc. Preferably not a 27.2 seat tube so I can get an uppy-downy post.

I've done the Dialled bikes complete range to death (had 5 I think, maybe 6).

Blue pig, Cotic Bfe, those sort of lines. Stiffee, Chameleon etc typically too stiff/uncomfy. Not a gas pipe cheapo (cough inbred/brand-x etc).New or 2nd hand. MAX £400 preferably less. Any reccomendations?

just waiting on the wheels and my Cotic BFe build is complete, its running 150mm revelations, 2x10 XT, easton haven kit and mavic en521/hope pro 2s. total overkill on the build but its going to be huge fun. the frame is stunning and dealing with Paul and Cy is easy. there is a lot of love for the BFe on STW.

In reality I probably wanted a Soul more but the BFe was £200, just as capable and, well a bit more BFe!....

I have a Cove Stiffee FR (aluminium) and a Cove Handjob (steel), I like them both however the steel one is my Fav if I had to choose.

Been doing lots of reading, Bfe seems like a good shout do far and they have some reduced. Just emailed em ref sizing advice, might try and get a sit on one at 18 bikes too.
