First attempt of Box Hill

Lovely evening for a ride so thought i'd head over to Box Hill to see what all the fuss is about.

Firstly, the hill really isn't too bad, the smooth surface makes it a joy to ride and bits of it are barely a climb, so gives you a chance to recover slightly. Overall somewhere in the middle of the Strava riders attempted so far, but aim to improve on that this week (now I have an idea how hard you can push). The road along the top past The Tree pub is effing bumpy too!

Secondly, as I was having a brief chat with a chap I caught up near the top, some bloody hooligan on a Cervelo came past with a Kingston Wheelers top on

I'm likely to give this ago in the next couple of weeks. I was checking out the section on Strava tonight, it's going to be a hugely popular section!!!!

Yeah, already 3000+ riders on the many Box Hill segments, so a great bench mark to see how good a climber you are.

Sod doing 9 laps though!

I don't understand the fascination with it.. it's not that steep, and it's not that long. There's quite a few bigger (and better) hills not too far away.

The hills down your way do indeed look a lot longer and more challenging, I need to explore further afield.

Lovely view from the top, with a National Trust cafe. There are some more challenging hills to the West, but not with the same cafe.

I'm heading there tomorrow morning on my 'commute' from Guildford to Guildford. Can't say I'm looking forward to it.

Remember the road is closed from tomorrow morning at 10am until next Tuesday, so make the most of it today.
