Good evening all,
After my first bike trip 2 years ago LINKY my friend and i have hatched another plan for week long ride. However before we get the details sorted i need to choose which one of my many many bikes to take.
Current favorite is my recently rebuilt 2009 Kona Smoke that i use daily to ride to work. The main problem with this bike is it lacks from pannier mounts on the forks. My front pannier rack is only rated to 10kg so the load isn't massive, however i imagine the shock load over bumps will be quite a lot.
So, i have come up with this solution. Im not sure if it will work and it has to last a week of expedition so with about 6 weeks to go i am going to take it out with 15kg of ribena in the packs tomorrow and see what happens.
Basically its two rubber shrouded P-clips. Im hoping the forces will be pushing "into" the forks as much as down but im just blagging it.
The only other fixing point is the fork crown bolt and bracket
What do you think chaps? Monumentally stupid and bound to fail or maybe a slither of success in the future.

The back rack is rated to 25kg, more than enough for a week long trip.
i have also solved the front rack issue this week with a low-rider type one that claps around the forks and mounts to the lower 5mm mud guard hole. My final set of panniers has arrived today so this afternoon its time for a 50km fully loaded ride to test everything out.
Ill upload pics of the finished beast when i am done.
