A guy at work sold me two tickets for £30 at Box Hill. "I don't like cycling mate."
Result
But, I really don't think you'll see anything and it's a PITA to get there. I would cycle but will look like a tool in lycra and don't want to keep an eye out all day for the bike. Still unsure what to do.

Of all the places in the world where wearing Lycra WON'T make you look like a tool, Box Hill when the road race is on will be it Result

I'm off to watch at Box Hill. My Dad and a couple of his mates all applied for different events, his mates got tickets for the cycling, and now can't go. So my brother and I graciously stepped in as reserves! I'm quite excited, as I don't have tickets for anything else, so at least I can say I've seen one of the events live. Haven't thought about how we'll get in/out.
Ah, a no from me. But out of all the tickets we did apply for, we got some for the football the day after the road race. As luck would have it, Team GB were drawn in the group we have tickets for, and, as it's a double header, we'll see all four of the teams in the group play on the same day. No word yet on the mortgage application we made so that we can afford to eat/drink at Wembley Stadium prices.
Depending on work, and a leave pass from SWMBO, I may yet cycle from Farnborough to that cycling festival thing going on at the vineyard opposite Boxhill, but no firm plans as yet.

For those wanting to watch the race on Box Hill, there will be no vehicular access (or parking) anywhere in the area on the day(s). Best bet is to train it up to either Boxhill & Westhumble, or Betchworth BRs and then walk.
Access to the NT-owned 'Zig Zag Road' itself is restricted and ticketed, but anyone can watch from Boxhill Road in Boxhill village.
Come and cheer, moreover spend money in the village shop, 'Hilltop Stores', and the excellent gastro-pub, 'The Tree'.

The Smith & Western gets a '1' (major improvement required) from the local council for food handling and hygiene. Can't say I'm surprised - I only mention it to people as a warning.thole on the corner!On the other hand, The Tree gets a '5' (the highest). Their BBQs at weekends are excellent.

I'll be working the route of the road races, although i'm not sure where yet.
I also worked on the test event in August and was stationed on Staple Lane and Combe Lane just east of Guildford. It's a very narrow wooded section with a small hill at the start of Staple Lane which slowed the riders down enough to make good viewing.
Just make sure you are there on foot or bike an hour before the race comes through.
My top tip is:
When walking on closed roads stay close to the edge and keep your eyes and ears out. The closed roads are a Mecca for local cycling clubs to tear along and the official vehicles also drive the route continuously before the riders come through, at what I would say were inappropriate speeds.

If you get stuck in, watch out for the guy on a motorbike - he patrols your section. He is the only person with responsibility coupled with common sense. The paid marshalls who will be wearing black with yellow hiviz, are not interested in helping/talking/smiling to anyone. The olympic workers wearing purple and red will be very considerate and understanding - but totally powerless!
If all else fails (and you didn't hear this from me!)
Drive on the road following the central white line, put you hazards on and window down - only drive in the direction of the cycling. Get to the nearest exit point onto an open road and tell the men in black the section supervisor on a motorbike said it was ok for you to be let out - they wont send you back the wrong way along the route.
