Trails in and around the manchester area.
Discussion
I'm from NW and just getting back into MTB atm.
Delemere Forest is supposed to be pretty good. A good range of trails to suit experienced and beginner rider. Not been yet myself though.
Rivington Pike again is popular, but again not been yet myself.
Atm i'm just getting used to my new bike and building up bike fitness at Pennington Flash, but its not technical at all there, just muddy!

Starting to get into mtb and doing trails...
What trails are out there, for the moderate rider with a moderate set up?
Rivington is good but could be quite challenging if you are only just starting out. As mentioned Penny Flash is small trail and very busy during the weekend. The canal path is a good way to get some miles under your belt. The run into Haigh Hall is a good one to build fitness. What trails are out there, for the moderate rider with a moderate set up?
You could also give Gisburn a try its not too difficult.

Thanks for all the replys guys...
What are the make up of the trails mensioned, what do they involve, what distences from start to end?
I would like to eventually get into forrest trails.
Bikes being repaired/rebuild atm, hopefully it'll be finished for thursday can't wait to get out on it.
I'll check on google maps for the distences from my house now.

I keep meaning to go out with the Manchester Mountain Bikers club (not sure if any other PHers are members?), they look well worth joining for anyone in the area:

I live up near Saddleworth and there's quite a few decent rides to be found around here. I usually head out up towards the Dovestones / Brushes reservoir areas, or through Saddleworth and out towards Huddersfield and Holmfirth.
This website has a few decent routes to try, the 'Diggle Jiggle' would be a pretty good one for most levels of ability - http://www.nationaltrail.co.uk/penninebridleway/te...
As has been said by others, Delamere is supposed to have some decent trails although I've not been here yet, or if you have the time to get over Llandegla is brilliant and well worth the trip.
Have fun...!

I am, though I'm in the Lakes/North East now, so I'm not out much around Manchester anymore. You should definitely get yourself on some of the rides with the CLub, it's a really good club and a fantastic resource for routes in the area. If you ask the same question on the website you'll get GPS files to follow as well as really good advice.http://www.meetup.com/Manchester-Mountain-Bikers/
Manchester is one of the best places to live for Mountain Biking I think, not necessarily the best for riding out the door, but if you have transport there are few better places for getting to great places to ride from if that makes sense? Peaks, Lakes, North Wales, Pennines, Yorkshire all within easy reach. Lots of decent places close by too.
I used to live in Chorlton, one of the worse places in Manchester to live for riding from your door, but I could still do decent rides from there. 30 minutes flat along a railway line at the start and end of each ride. What you have from Manchester is hills that start at Reddish Vale, just North of Stockport that get progressively bigger all the way to the Peak District. There's some fun (mud) trails in Reddish Vale, fromt here you've got Woodbank Park and the Goyt Valley, Werneth Low, Etherow Country Park, Brabyns Park to Marple, then Roman Lakes and trails all the way to lantern Pike and the Peaks beyond Hayfield. It's great countryside for getting fit on when you know where to go.
If you drop me an email I can send you some links to some of the best routes around there, though you're best joining in with MMB if you don't have a GPS to follow as they're pretty hidden and convoluted so hard to follow!
Hope that helps!
