Just got back from the first ride on the new bike. Having come from mountain bikes, I simply cannot believe how effortlessly road bikes eat up the miles, and the hills! 100% converted roadie already smile Only covered around 30km's but just felt so easy, can't wait to start upping the distance, and my fitness levels!

Gratuitous pic...

In regards to the Supersix, it really does feel fantastic to ride, not too hard/stiff at all IMO, but then i haven't ridden too much else smile Also first ride of the SPD-SL's, didnt find getting used to them a problem in the slightest, but still have to one foot pedal a couple of times at junctions. Thoroughly recomended andthanks again to the guys on the other thread who pointed me in the right direction.

Jimbo.

coming from MTB to this machine must have been an eye opener, I also got my first road bike this year and love it to bits

Pretty much echoes what I said when I got my CAAD8 smile

I still have a mental block about big hills from riding heavy MTBs when younger, but the bike shrugs them off totally.

Now: download Strava. wink

Nice, I would really like one of those.......but my current bike does what I need it to!

Before you get too used to the current position flip and drop the stem, you will end up doing it in a few months time anyway so get it over with now, get used to the upper back/shoulder ache for a couple of weeks then your body will get used to it, and your riding position will be slightly more aggressive.

I would go against the grain re tyres, the best I have ever experienced for a balance of rolling resistance, puncture resistance and longevity is the Michelin Krylion Carbon. Only thing is Michelin has stopped making them (God knows why) but there are still a few around in the online bike shops. Defo 23mm whatever you go for.....

Enjoy, I bought my road bike last Feb coming from several years of MTB-ing, mainly for fitness. Like you I started off with shortish rides, quickly extended them - the next thing will be focussing on upping the average speed! wink

Remember, unlike an MTB think cadence, cadence, cadence, cadence.............and in case you forget, cadence.........

Enjoy!!!!! smile

Thanks chaps, looks like my first purchase has got to be some banana soreen by the sounds of it smile

For now I'll keep the tyres I have whilst I'm very much learning the bike and what it can do.

Just signed up to Strava, what a fantastic looking site, loads of local information on routes and segments. Definitely some food for thought on my next ride smile

Not sure if it's my pic, but the stem is already flipped the aggressive way if you like, might need to remove a spacer of 2 though.

Quick release warning sticker?

That's worse than spelling/grammatical errors in these parts and they'll stone you to death for that!

Ps. if that drink came with the bike I wouldn't risk drinking it. wink

Must be the piccie, looks like its in the incline! Did the shop fit the bike for you? Looks like the stem is very high and has not been cut down, could be that you are a short chap but I would probably look at experimenting with the spacers, try riding with just one under the stem to begin with and see how it feels. Its a very small thing that makes a huge difference, I rode with my stem on the incline and all spacers under the stem until after about 6 months on the bike I had a fitting. Now have 1 x 5mm spacer under the stem and the stem flipped to point towards the floor, that said they also put the seat post up about 5 cms and moved the seat forward! Made a HUGE difference to getting the power down on hills and sprints, also made a much more conformable ride!

Thanks for that, might pop down to my LBS at some point and get myself fitted properly, but initial thoughts are it's very comfy, always happy to experiment though. Oh and not that short, 6'2

Below pic when it arrived shows the stem angle a little clearer..

Can i remove a spacer and just put it on top of stem, if that makes sense?

Cannondales often come with a pile of spaces below the stem: my CAAD9 did!

re. spacers: yes, you can smile

There is a warning sticker at the bottom of the fork leg, don't you roadie types have "rules" forbidding such things?
