Removing a stuck crappy BB

So I've been asked to sort out a new bottom bracket on a mates bike; it's a nasty cartridge square tapered thing and it's jammed solid. The plastic cup has smashed so will have to be battered out when the cartridge is out and the drive side seems jammed solid. Wouldn't surprise me if it's cross threaded.
Anyone got any ideas how to remove it?

Is it one of those plastic units?

If so, I had a similar nightmare.

In the end I burned it out with a blowtorch!

Put the BB removal tool in a vice and then turn the whole bike....

What Scott said, but preceeded by a prolonged soak in PlusGas.

You should use something - an allen bolt or one of the crank bolts - to secure the removal tool so that it won't 'cam-out' during the operation.

I'd already had it in the vice and couldn't budge it. However, plus gas and one of the rugby player sized lads I work with managed it.
