'Knocking About' on clipless pedals
Discussion
Few of my mates live 4 or 5 miles away and it'd be great if I didn't have to spend a tenner on taxis / rely on lifts / use my car and only have one beer. It's the same with running to the shops and whatnot.
My shoes are horrifically slippy and it'd be great if I could just throw my trainers on at night instead of having to worry about clipping in. I've got fairly biggish look style pedals so would I get away with kicking about on my roadie without needing shoes every time? Does anyone else do this?

You can get pedals which are clipped on one side and platform on the other.
I have also wondered if you couldn't make a couple of steel inserts to go under the insoles in your trainers just thick enough to spread the load of the pedal without stopping your trainers from fitting. Get to the other end, take them back out and leave them with your bike until it's time to go home.

You're doing it wrong. You need a new bike for this situation.
Something like this:

But with a much bigger chainring obviously. Unless you're a 12 year old girl.
Now this I like!!!! Something like this:

Kind of retro, simple and would do a way better job than a cruiser / bmx.
Edit: my current roadie is in need of an upgrade anyways so I could just get the Planet X I want and then comfy mine up a bit (tyres, seat etc) and get it painted so it's not Matt black. Interesting developments!!
Cheers for the help. Consensus is a need another bike.

AllI'd say is last time I'd had a couple of beers and road my bike I felt like I'd had 10 pints not 3 by the time I got home, on that experience I'd not drink and cycle.
But if it helps, you'll certainly need at least 1 new bike to help with the issue you face with pedals, probably just as cheap to buy a new bike than faf around with 2 sets of pedals after all time is money!

All my bikes have spdsl or spd pedals, I happily pedal on them in trainers or flip-flops or even bare foot sometimes, It's easy. You could easily pedal on look pedals with trainers on just to visit your mates or go to the shops. You should definitely get a new bike though.

Although having said that, I've ridden my single speed which has SPD-SLs with just normal smooth-soled shoes on. If you're going 4/5miles, I'd be tempted to just wear the road shoes, carry normal shoes in a bag and switch them over.
