Can anyone recommend me a ‘tummy friendly’ alternative to PSP22?

I have been using PSP22 with a good level of success over the past 18 months, but suddenly developed an intolerance to it very similar to the effect that a dodgy pint of best and a vindaloo has on most people.

Thankfully the intolerance has only made itself known after a ride, but I am increasingly worried that I may ‘explode’ while in the saddle soon......

I'm using Maxifuel. Stomach probs is normally from all the sugar, so maybe just put a little less poweder in the bottle. This can change with age so even if it was ok a couple of moths ago might not be now. Also if you have powders in your bottle then you don't need gels. If you have gels then just water.

Hiya, thanks for the feedback.

I don't use gels, if anything I have a handful of jelly babies in my jerseys for 'those climbs', I tend to make sure I have eaten an adequate amount of carbs before I ride which means I can keep food to a minimum on the ride. I only use carb drink if I know I am going out for a hard ride, or a long distance one - otherwise I just have a bottle of NUUN hydration drink to keep electrolytes up and stave off cramps.

You're probably using too much. Carb loading, jelly babies (immediately before a climb? Don't bother), PSP22...that's quite some intake! Knock off the jelly babies, ease back on the PSP22 mix and see how you get on. And should you do take some in, avoid huge great gobfuls: little and often, and all that.

FWIW I tried all the SIS stuff, and whilst it was...OK...it dod have the odd side-effect. The REGO particularly. Switched to Torq stuff, and whilst a little harder to find, seems to work just as well without the dodgy guts afterwards.

Thanks Jimbo, I have ordered some High5 Energy Source sachets from Wiggle and will see how I get on, if they don't do the trick then I will hunt down some torq.

Just to put my intake into perspective I think my original post was a tad badly written. If I am riding first thing I usually have a bowl of porridge and a banana about an hour before I setoff, if I am riding later in the day I will usually have taken on enough at lunch to not need at eat anything special before setting off. Depending on the sort of ride I am going for will dictate what I take with me.

If I am on a 40/50+ miler, or am planning a hard ride, I will take a bidden of hydration mix (currently using NUUN), and a bidden of carb mix (60gs in 750 mls), I usually stick a flapjack or two in my jersey and a handful of jelly babies just in case I am flagging and need the sugar lift!

If I am out for a steady paced ride or anything less than 40/50 miles I tend to only need a hydration drink.

I did the L2B over the weekend and used approx 400 mls of hydration drink, and probably 150 mls of carb drink, plus a flapjack - so probably not excessive. 2 hours after the ride you would have thought that I had eaten my own body weight in ex-lax!

Last night I went out for a quick 40 mile spin with a few long uphill slogs and a couple of short, sharp hills. I probably took on 100 mls of PSP22 and 500 mls of hydration drink and a small handful of jelly babies, again - couple of hours later I found time to read the paper.

Odd thing is I have been using PSP22 for quite a while with no side effects until a short while ago. I stopped using carb drink for a while, no problems, took some on again this weekend for the L2B and bang......I guess I have just built up an intolerance!

One second: PSP22 is the "Electrolyte"-laced energy drink from SIS. If you're necking that PLUS some other electrolyte-enriched drink...maybe that's not helping?
