Picked up my Boardman.....

I picked it up yesterday and after a few problems that to be fair were dealt with VERY well by Halfords, I picked it up AGAIN today and took it out for it's maiden voyage.

All I can say is wow....it's everything I hoped it would be. Fast, smooth, rock solid and precise. Love it!!

It's now available for £559.....which in my opinion is superb value!

It was seeing that one that made me explore the cycle to work option at work.

Waiting for my letter of collection (won't arrive til the 18th of July!), but as normal experienced major budget creep and am going for the hardtail pro...

Glad you're loving it though, there's still a niggly feeling spunking a grand on a bike I haven't ridden is a recipe for potential disaster. Especially as I seem to fit between sizes - the medium is the right length, but no clearance standing over the top tube, I'm a freak with diddy legs and long torso. There hasn't been a small Boardman built up in any of the four Halfords I've visited...

The length is only an inch shorter, but there'll be nearly 3" extra standing clearance, so I'm sure the small is the one to go for.... But....

Keep us informed how you get on.

I know, I know, but I really don't think the inch difference in reach is going to be as much of a hindrance than the lack of standover height for the singletrack riding I want to get back into. I can always go for a slightly longer stem and/or layback seatpost to sort the length out...

Literally zero clearance on standover with the medium, and pretty long reach - which probably feels right because my last bike was a trek oclv roadie.

whenever I use my boardman carbon I am always grinning from ear to ear when I get off it at the other end. it really is a superb ride and is very rewarding and responsive when you put the effort in.

Thinking about getting a hybrid typebike myself, Does that boardman urban mountain bike have higer gearign that the average mtb? I find this alimiting factoron some of the cycle paths i use.

Or would one of these be better for the commute?

picking up my Boardman Pro next week, after all the great reviews that I have read I am very much looking forward to it. Definitely getting it built by the LBS though. Do not trust the Halfords chappies in store, seems to be very hit and miss on the build. There is even a couple of highly critical reviews on their own Online Store about the inconsistent build issues..

All the shop do is fit pedals/wheels/saddle. The rest is set up at the factory, even the gears are already indexed. I do not believe those who always take a pop at Halfords ( my worst bike build was by LBS incidentally, gave me a bike with loose handlebar bolts)

build it yourself, it s bike not a space ship!. as jimboka said, all you will have to do is bolt the bars to the stem, pop the pedals on and do a spanner check. your lbs will charge something stupid like £50 for a set up and when something breaks or needs replacing, if having built it yourself, you will know what to do and wont need to pay their ridiculous service rate.

Thanks for the advice. I am obviously able to set a bike up myself, however time and inconvenience are my primary concern..being a lazy fkr I would rather pay someone else to do it while I sit in the local coffee shop watching the girls go by!
