Klein single speed

Just finished putting an old Klein Pulse together as a commuter/pub bike so thought I'd throw a couple of pics up

















Still got some niggles to sort out like chain alignment and the chain is useless so I've got a SRAM chain coming and the brakes need adjusting but it's about together now. Comments good and bad welcome.

Ditch the Kona forks and get some Pace RC31's

I think the are right, Pace forks, and now DT Swiss who brought them out had the bridge the other side compared to most forks.

Not sure if serious, but yes they are the right way round. Pace RC35 and36's had canti/v-brake mounts behind. Seemed to make sense to me as the wheel was pushing brakes onto the fork bosses not trying to pull them off. Not sure how much difference it made in reality though. Oh i loved my RC35's. All 50mm uncontrolled elastomer travel.... The latest Pace forks still had bridge on the back but brake bosses had long gone:

Not yet, binning the cheap chain (should have known) and bought an 11t lock ring which isn't big enough to secure the spacers. So thats on it's way from velosolo (who are brilliant btw).

I'd like pace rigid carbon forks but the budget was 350 quid all in so couldn't stretch to them. No point throwing travel at the bike as it'll only see roads.

Thanks for the encouraging comments though. Love Klein's and even though this is the budget offering its still beautifully made. Hopefully I've given it anothe few years work

I'm currently converting my old mountain bike to single speed using velosolo parts. I think i got the same chain as in your photos so i'd be interested to know why you dont like it Got it together last night but the chain is crunching under pedalling load. Will have to play around tonight but I don't think it is alignment so perhaps the chain?

Thanks Tim, yeah it's long gone now. It was N+1 bike too many and in all honesty was a little too big for me on the medium frame which I think was 18.5". You've done a great job on the Pulse, especially for £350!

Holds the chain away from that chunky chainstay by the looks of things

Chain tension. 'Proper' single speed bikes have horizontal dropouts (rather than vertical on most MTB's) so you can use the wheel position to help tension the chain. I am using the same tensioner on my bike.

yep, looks like a chain tensioner due to the type of dropouts
