What second hand fork bargain?

Hi folks.

Looking for a XC fork to suit my On One Whippet frame I'm building up.

120mm max is what they say. 1.18" steerer.

I'm more than happy to go second hand, actually I hadn't looked new and am already on eBay eyeing up bargains. When I was last in the XC scene, Rockshox Sid's were the fork of the day and I'm looking at these so far.

What should I be looking at from Manitou, Marzocchi, Fox, Pace and the rest?

Judys were a bit before my time. BUT, if you mean a reasonably priced, reasonable weight, good performing, reliable and easy to maintain fork, then yes, I 'spose they are

Rebas are great value new and nearly as light as SIDs but second hand, Fox RLCs hardly seem to cost any more than Rebas.

Loads of people really rate Suntour Epicons which are significantly cheaper but still as light as either of the above.

Save for their rear shocks, Fox aren't worth a wk IMO: both I and others I know/ride with have had no end of trouble with them, particularly the damping gubbins going bang. Managed to blow mine up after four days in the Alps.

I personally think FOX make great forks... - Had 36 vans out in the Alps - best forks I've ever used IMO!!
Currently got 100mm travel fox's on my superlight (can't remeber the model), but again - awesome!

(did have Reba's in the past, and TBH, for the money you won't beat them!)

Never had one single problem with Fox forks whether in the Alps or many wet rocky days in the Lakes.

I've only borrowed or hired full suss bikes so far so couldn't comment on the long term reliability of any rear shocks.

given TFTuned charge around £100 for a full service, buying s/h forks isnt that much of a gamble really. i'd avoid ebay and use bikeradar and singletrackworld just because i would trust the seller more but as others have said, you cant go wrong with revelations or rebas.

Right, I'm hunting out the Reba's at the moment then. So apart from Fox/ Suntours that someone bought up, do Manitou, Marzocchi have nothing of interest? I used to run Marzocchi bomber Z1's in previous years, but never really knew their XC offerings.

I recently went for some Marzocchi Marathon R 2012 forks, come with a 3year warranty for £150 which is good value compared to what some of the second hand forks go for..
They have been good for XC use so far and was surprised at there performance at a trail centre. As good as there older offerings.
Not sure how they compare to other brands but worth a gander.
