cycling socks

Im in 2 minds about this, a sock is a sock isnt it?

At the moment I just wear my everyday socks for cycling at the weekends but have been looking at proper cycling socks on line recently. Is there an advantage to them and if so what, I quite often do 50 mile plus rides, are there types with better cushioning in or not? (my feet dont ache/hurt when I get home but do get a bit sweaty, yuk!)

Any recommendations from what you use please or am I better off keeping my money and spending it on more sportive entries lol

You're right to an extent - a sock is a sock. IME however, they (cycling, or dare I say "sports socks with a cycle scene tax"?) seem to be a little more "fitted"; hugging yer' foot just that little bit more. They're shorter, so can't roll down and bunch up. They're a little more durable, and if you buy the right ones (DeFeet Woolie-Boolies) can be nice 'n' warm.

I like DeFeet stuff. especially the aforementioned Woolie-Boolies for winter, and the Wool-e-ators for summer.

The Rapha merino wool socks are excellent. Keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Second best bit of kit Rapha do after their legendary base layers.

Nike dri-fit socks, left and right fitted, non-sweaty feet, all wicked away to the outside of the socks. I use my pairs for cycling and Badminton, they are good.

I really like Prendas' own brand socks - soft, thin, snug fitting, nice looking.

No, but it's a good point. I shall ask for some!

FWIW I think Assos kit is generally better apart from these two bits.

Endura coolmax socks that I've had for 5 years or so (3 pairs of a tenner), plus a collection of pairs I've been given at events and off the front of bike mags.

I don't really worry about venting and stuff, I just don't want to finish the day with holes in them and rub marks.

I had to use a pair of black cotton 'office socks' once when I forgot my riding ones, feet got rubbed to bit in the gritty mud and got home to find them full of holes.
