another ' which bike ' thread

Hi all
I'll soon be looking for a new bike to replace the one that was wrecked by car.

So, i've decided, flat bars, for comfort + hardly ever used drops on last one, price range £600 - 800 give or take each way.

i'm looking at
Giant rapid 3 or 2
Specialised sirrus comp and
Cannondale quick SL2

I'll be using it for 8 mile commute each day and maybe 30-40 mile runs at weekend, and would like to fit mudguards.

Any opinions/experience gratefully received,

BTW if my company will get involved with C2W i might just consider Giant rapid 1

all three are great bikes and tick all the boxes but i would go for a Cotic Roadrat to be a bit different. They are a great company whao are (I HATE this phrase but its the most suitable) run by rider for riders... ugh, there i said it... i feel dirty.

As much as I'm not a fan of Halfrauds, the Boardman Hybrids are pretty cool too and appear to have £100 off them at the mo:

I enjoyed mine tremendously pre upgrade to road bike.

Have you looked at a Merida? They don't have a massive presence in uk but globally are pretty big. They own a large percentage of specialized and make frames for a few other big brands.

I just got one of their road bikes, offered much better value than the giant or cannondale I was also looking at. Finish is top quality and the service from my lbs has been great.

The road rat looks tasty pablo, i'll give that some thought.

I've found out that work does do the C2W scheme so i'll be going down that route, plus i can get a 10% discount from a local dealer so that needs considering, i'll have to see whether it will be cheaper than the discounts at halfords, however my original three choices will now need rethinking,

To me the help and support a good LBS offers is worth a small premium over halfords or an online retailer.

In fact my local guy now gives me prices that pretty much match the likes of wiggle. Although it probably helps that since buying my road bike I've been out for a couple of 50 milers with him.
