The Halcyon looks the part and has disc brakes i'd probably go for that.

Do you have to buy brand new? you can get a lot of bike for your budget on the used market. Just have a quick look on ebay and you will see some good bikes.

Someone else on here ordered a Halcyon and had no end of trouble with it. I'd buy SH off eBay: not sight unseen, just sort by distance and go and look.
