What parts do i need??

The gears on my 2009 rockhopper have started to slip a bit . I think i probably need a new chain and casette. As i have ordered a new bike i will then probably sell the bike.

So which bits do i need exactly?

I am looking to put the bike right, not fit the best components available.

Surely you want a 9 speed chain if you're running 9 speed transmission? May be worth looking at Merlin cycles website also.

Parker interenational had KMC chains at a very good price last time I was buying one.

How much has the bike been used? It might be a simple case of re-indexing the gears to sell it if it hasn't had a particulaly hard life.

The bike has been used quite a bit on trails.

The gears change fine, the problem is if i am in the top few gears pedalling hard (on a cycle track not a trail) every few turns the pedals slip, im a numpty when it comes to bike mechanics but i think its caused by either a worn chain or casette. Well thats what someone told me anyway!

doesnt sound like either the chain or the cassette to be honest, i would just take the cables out and put new ones in, grease them up and see if that solves the problem... with things like this its beter to try the simple and cheaper solutions first.

I am almost 100% certain its not the cables, It changes gear fine and remains in gear fine. The chain just seems to slip when its in a high gear under a bit of pressure.

Its hard to describe but you might pedal 5 revolutions, get a brief grind/slip/click then it pedals as normal for a bit, then grind/slip/click. Its intermittent, it might do it 10 times in 30 seconds or not at all.

Right ordered a new chain, will see if that solves the problem.

If the cassette is worn too, you'll more than likley need one of those also - they wear together, so this could make the issue worse...

It sounds like chain and cassette to me. You should change both together though. You may need a new chain ring at the front though try chain and cassette only first.
