After dabbling with a Titus mountain bike I decided that it was a bit overkill for the xc rising that I currently do around the Surrey Hills. The search for a suitable bike to accompany my Seven Sola hardtail began and I must have read 100's of reviews to decide on THE bike to buy.
Having given up classic cars, paid off a bit of the mortgage and undertaken some much needed work on the house, I wanted a "treat" and wasn't about to feel guilty on buying a reasonably good bike.
One bike consistently came out with loads of praise and that was a Yeti ASR5 Carbon. Taking a couple of brave pills I've done the deed and a couple of weeks ago picked up my new steed, fully kitted out in XTR components, with Mavic crossmax SLR wheels etc.
My first ride was actually last week where my brother and I had a 3 day session in the Forest of Dean. Well, what a bike! It took a bit of getting used to at first as it's quite racy and very quick to react, very noticeable over the Titus. But on XC courses it really did perform well, especially down the Verderers trail. It is an exceptional climber too, so if anyone is thinking of buying a light, good XC bike, this really should be on your list.

Or you could save yourself about £2.5k and get a very capable Yeti 575 XT. either way you will be totally over biked for all the terrain this country can throw at you!Was at Afan yesterday on my 575 and I was dumfounded at just how 'awesome' - as our cousins across the pond would say - this bike was.
It does sound like you've got quite a specialist bike there and understand I am not in the slightest bit jealous, but if I see you, I might have to mug you and nick your bike. No offence or anything, and nothing personal
