Boot bike racks for the Mk1 3.2L V6 TT Roadster ?
Discussion
Hi,
Wondering if anyone can help please. I am looking for a boot bike rack for the Mk1 3.2L V6 TT Roadster (the one with the bigger boot spoiler).
I tried Halfords and Evans but neither could advise. I've done a search via google and there are a number of threads but none that conclusively agree on a suitable boot mounted bike rack.
The Saris Bones 2 is mentioned a couple of times but it also seems the lower arms of this rack sit on the bumper of the TTR and can therefore deform the plastic.
Does anyone on here have any recommendations please?
Many thanks in advance,
Matt

Not feeling flush enough for this? http://www.thettshop.co.uk/rack.asp. I'm
at the price although it does look like a great solution.
My mate's in the same situation and hasn't found a rack for his TT (a 225 but the same issues). Roofbars seems to be rare as hen's teeth so he's currently relying on others for lifts with his bike.

Many thanks. Had somehow missed that rack at the ttshop (only saw the boot mounted one that isn't compatible with my fat spoiler).

But £480 ... :O .... maybe not! Thanks though!!!!

I know, it's a ridiculous amount of money for a rack - wouldn't even suit me/my mate as mounting weird-shaped full-suss MTBs without a normal top-tube would be a PITA!But £480 ... :O .... maybe not! Thanks though!!!!
Have you considered that roofbars plus racks might be the solution? Still not cheap but not £480. I seem to recall my mate mentioned something about having to modify the rubbers around the windows to fit roofbars but I can't remember exactly...
I'd be tempted to use and abuse my local Halfords/big bike shop and ask if you can try out their display boot-mounted racks on your car.

Guessing the fact that it's a roadster rules out the roof mounted option. I was checking out racks for Z4s which probably have the same issue and the only option seemed to be the Saris Bones 2. Have you looking into towbar mountings? Not sure whether there are options available for the TT but they can generally be made fairly invisible when removed.
Towbar I gather is a no go too - the TTR isn't rated for one (though I guess carrying a bike is a bit different to tugging a caravan .... ).Gumstabber said:
Why don't you ask at your local Audi garage. My officail vauxhall bars were cheaper from vauxhall than Halfrauds!
Thanks. I've emailed them earlier. Will follow up with a call. It seems the official options were for the 1.8T engined TTR with the smaller spoiler and the slightly larger spoiler on my TTR is a PITA.That TT shop one is a bit cheaper from the states by the looks of this.
