Best puncture repair kit?
Discussion
Was out riding my MTB and having had only had 1 puncture in 18 months i carry 1 tube and a repair kit. 3 weeks ago, I was on a canal path in ice/snow and got a puncture. Changed it and then got 2 more with 100 yards!! I think they had cut the bushes and the thorns were sticking thru the ice...
Anyway, i tried to repair both punctures with the random repair kit in my bag, checked for thorns and decided to head home on the tarmac lanes. Within 200m both had gone down
So had to walk 3 miles before the missus came to meet me
Is there such a thing as "best" puncture repair kit? Perhaps as it was -6c this stopped the glue setting?

As a get you home remedy I have had a lot of success over many years with the ready spare type of aerosol instant tyre repair cans. The Holts Tyreweld range is particularly good.
This does work pretty well instantly.
At a later stage, when back home, I replace the tube and repair the carcass or replace depending on the severity of the damage.
Always got me home, or on round the journey, depending where the flat occurred on the day. Takes literally less than 2 minutes to blow up the flat tyre.
No tyre levers needed, no dismantling the bike, Screw it into the valve blows up the tyre within 2 minutes.
A great deal easier than a full puncture repair.
I always replace the tube and the tyre if necessary back at home. Works for me.

I'm a HUGE fan of these: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/park-tools-puncture-repair...
They don't stick to a wet inner-tube, but apart from that they are amazing.

Not a fan of any patches: a stick-on, temporary, get-you-home repair at best. Always had more luck with the "proper" kits, with the Rema kits being amongst the better ones.
re. the OPs problem, I don't think cold helps. And without wanting to sound like I'm taking the piss, you...were...doing it properly, right?

up until a couple of weeks ago i would have said that even a get you home temporary repair is often too much to hope for with patch kits of any kind (stick on or old fashioned), so much so that i havnt bothered patching a tube in years, i always just replace.but then i used this:
http://www.biketart.com/728/products/lezyne-lever-...
used it to patch up a big b
d of a whole left by a big b
d of a thorn, and it worked like a charm.granted i have only used it once, but they really do seem to be bloody brilliant.
cheers for the pointers, went for the parks patches from amazon if interested £2.95 delivered http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000WY730... - wiggle are OOS
PS i am pretty sure i did it right as the last one i did was fine!!

I've had the park patches in the past which as already said work as a get-you-home to the propper patch kit.
I've got a set of the Lezyne (how is that pronounced btw?) patches on their way to me today, so it's good to see a favorable review from a user.
I'm a firm believer in repair over replacement though (read tight wad) so some of my tubes are more patch than tube

I don't consider Park Patches to be temporary - they have always stuck permanently (apart from one I applied in pissing rain) and held good air for me.I've got a set of the Lezyne (how is that pronounced btw?) patches on their way to me today, so it's good to see a favorable review from a user.
