Help with a Garmin Edge 800

Where are you planning yor routes? bikeroutetoaster works well for me.

Bike Route Toaster for me too. You can download the routes directly to your 800 from there.
Browse through your computer to the Garmin, if there is an SD card in it then it will show twice. One is the onboard memory in the Garmin unit and the other is the SD card
On both of them, there will be a folder called Garmin
Open one of them, browse to the Courses folder. Here is where you put your planned routes
Now go back up a level and browse to the Activities folder. This is where you will find your completed activities.
You can either upload these files as they are onto Garmin Connect or you can download the browser plugin, where it will search and find your Garmin unit when you have it connected over USB and logged into Garmin Connect

Have looked in both folders, they are empty even though the routes I have planned in Garmin Connect and have "successfully transferred to device".On both of them, there will be a folder called Garmin

I also cannot upload any activities to the Garmin Connect from the 800.
I have the browser plugin.
Thanks for the replies chaps

I think you'll find them in the newfiles folder. The 800 should convert them to .fit files when you switch it on. Mine has a .fit file under the courses file.
All I get on the unit is no courses when I select courses, even though it says it has downloaded them.Looks like you and Teresa better come over for a meal soon

Yep, just checked, newfiles and courses....both empty even though I have "successfully" transferred several courses to the device

Would be happy to pop over some time, Jez.
For the 800 I'd suggest downloading the course as a .tcx file from Bike Route Toaster. Drop that saved file into the newfiles folder on the SD card. Then when you switch on it does the conversion and will appear as a course. I just tested it all out on mine and it worked.

The SD card is the OS map one, surely writing over that will destroy the data already stored

Nope, its telling me the Garmin plugin is not detected and then that its installed correctly, then when I refresh its not connected again. I HATE TECHNOLOGY

I can't help really any further as I've never had the same problem but this might be of use http://frank.kinlan.co.uk/garmin-edge-800/dummies-...
Plenty of spare space on card. Or you can load to the internal memory.
Forget the plugin for a moment and try the Training Center software http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.js...

Thanks anyway, I am almost 100% sure it will be me
Is it just mine, or has anyone else with the 800 had problems?
Magic got me going for a while with a back door but now the bloody thing refuses to talk to Garmin connect entirely and Garmin support are useless.
In short I cannot upload any activites to Garmin connect nor transfer routes to the Edge from Garmin connect and only by back dooring through Bike Toaster, and then only sometimes.
ATM I seem to have a very expensive Iphone app
