Hi people, now I've got my new Scott Hybrid bike,I would like to set myself a target for the london 2 Brighton charity ride.

My concern is more about transporting the bike to and fro the start and finish lines,I live in essex and noticed that some train companies don't allow bikes on trains this day,Has anyone partaken in this event and what hurdles did you face regarding getting home etc.

Would love to do it but don't have a big enough car to get the bike in and don't want to impose on the missus etc.

given i have had a 100cc kart in a fiesta and a passenger in the fornt seat you either have a G-Wiz or you're not trying hard enough, you can take the wheels off then take the bars off and it should fit? you have a few options, drive down, get the train back the day before, find someone else doing the same event in a similar situation and team up, post a message on forums like bike radarfor any other local riders....

They do an uplift service (which you pay for) to get you and the bike back from Brighton to the start.

We did it as a team last year and just used a couple of vans and the works minibus to get us all to the start and back from Brighton.

Might be worth driving up the night before and staying somewhere within cycling distance from the start. Get the uplift back from Brighton at the end and then drive home.

You can easily get a Scott Hybrid into a Fabia VRS or a Nissan Juke - stop whining!

The uplift service from London to Brighton is £21, I will be using it to get up to London as in the same situation as you regarding getting to Mrs to drive all that way and then back again just to drop me off. Its also cheaper than running the gas drinker all that way!

As far as I know, the bike restrictions will mainly be on the Brighton - London trains only. The uplift service plus local trains might work well for you.

Similarly taking the car down might work too.

In all seriousness, if you get an early enough start, you will have all afternoon free, plus a bit more. Maybe you could tempt the missus with a Sat night in London, followed by a Sunday afternoon on the South Coast?

I used the second half of that plan to great effect last year, and you really feel like you've earned your fish n chips too. thumbup
