looking to upgrade my mtb (giant anthem x4) to a 29er.
have a budget of around £4k, perhaps £5k if the bike is amazing.
currently my view is that you can't actually get a bad mtb for anything priced £1800 plus, so i'm not desperate to spend the full amount. my view is the bike will be a better bike than i will ever be rider.
i ride round the chilterns on tracks, bridleways etc. nothing majorly technical, but some good fun runs. i like going up steep hills for some reason.
i have looked at a variety of bikes but simply can;t make up my mind. in the end sadly i think i will end up the the smartest looking bike.
looked at pivot mach 429, cube ams 29 race, whyte 146, giant anthem 29er and few others, but would be interested in peoples thoughts and what they would consider.
any ideas, picks would be much appreciated as my head is in a spin on this!

anyone who spends >£3K on an off the peg bike is to be polite, somewhat lacking in imagination..... Go to Lynskey and get a Ti 29er, not only will it be beautiful enough to hang in your front room, but it will also be an exceptional ride, last you a lifetime, be almost unique and far better value for money. If you get the M240 you will have loads left in the bank to spec it out with some gucci bits...and you will still have spent less than an off the peg generic boreathon...

An FS 29er might be overkill given the stated intended use and personally i'm not sure of the merits of a full sus 29er for the UK rider yet.
A Ti HT 29er will be so nice and springy, it will be as fast as f**k on bridleways and the like. FS, given the angles of a 29er, might make the ride a bit wallowy, especially if it has a fair bit of travel?
dont know really, not ridden a FS 29er but I'm sorely tempted to pick up an on-one 29er later in the year for a proper test and hack around a good mixture of terrain, if i dont get on with it it should sell reasonably quickly so its not an expensive trial...
