Forgive the stupid question...

I'm getting more into my MTB'ing, and I'm looking to upgrade.
I'm on a budget with this, and I'm not seeing the frame size (XL- just) and requirements I have on ebay much.
What is the worst thing that could happen if I drop down to a L frame (sacrificing 1 inch difference), and making up the difference on the seat post? It's a full suspension XC bike, nothing to amazing.
Thanks...

It shouldn't be a huge problem. It can actually be more fun to ride a frame that's technically a size too small as the shorter length and lower CoG make the bike more chuckable, and anyway you can always adjust the reach by tweaking the stem size and turning the bars forward a little, assuming they're risers.
Seatpost length isn't that big a deal within reasonable limits.
