4 Bike rack for 4x4, needs to allow for simultaneous towing

Hello all,

Search seems to be out of action, so please bear with me.

I need a 4 bike rack (to fit 2x Adult bikes and 2x Child bikes) for mounting on the back of a Volvo XC90.

I also need to maintain full functional use of the tow ball, ideally so that I can strap bikes on and pull a horse box simultaneously. Don't want to put the bikes on the roof as it's a long way up if the wife needs to get them down on her own.

Is this possible? Any recommendations?

What sort of tow fitting have you got in the Volvo? Is it a slide in swan neck or an old fashioned Witter type tow ball which fits to a plate welded to the draw bar? I have one where the fitting clamped in between the plate and the ball and has two supports which hold the bikes. Unfortunatly with modern integral tow hooks I can't use it.

I've got a Thule Back Pac 973, very substantial bit of kit which can take 4 bikes. Not cheap but it does the job very well.
