endomondo - really important question
Discussion
well actually it's not an important question, but there we go
i've just registered on endomondo, and my life as i knew it is now over as i have now developed a the very worst possible OCD.
how many burgers can i burn by christmas?
can i get to the moon by easter?
how long will it take me to cycle round the word?
but the most important question... why when you enter cycle transport or cycle sport options are the calories consumed figures vastly different for EXACTLY the same route. both are done within the same time (+/- 30 secs). sport option registers 458 calories, transport registers 260. i know these are supposed to be taken with a pinch of salt etc, but that much difference of 32 minutes? what do they base their calculations on?
answers on a postcard please...

Endomondo's calorie count is totally different to iMapmyride's - I even ran them both simultaneously for one ride, and using the same type of ride they were both quite different to each other (and both different to reality I suspect).
I have no idea how they attempt to work out your calorie usage but would not trust either of them one iota.

Endomondo always seem's to be touch and go for me.
I ensure it says GPS Excellent, And I ride into work. Only to find that the exact same route is apparently half a mile shorter than the day before... That and my speed is stupidly low sometimes.
It's probably your phone losing the GPS signal temporarily or bad GPS accuracy rather than the Endomondo software. I do the same thing and find that the routes are very consistent. The only time I found a problem was after a phone software upgrade screwed up my GPS. A later update corrected it and it's been fine ever since.I ensure it says GPS Excellent, And I ride into work. When I did the direct comparison of Endomondo and iMapmyride (on my iPhone), there was a discrepancy in the distance too. On looking at the traces in detail it was obvious that Endomondo simply logged your location less frequently than iMapmyride; it even cut off corners at times because there was no sample point right at the apex. This was a few months ago so I don't know if recent updates have improved it.I ensure it says GPS Excellent, And I ride into work.
