Did the 21m red route at dalby yesterday and got to admit that it was generally uncomfortable, slow and facking hard work. Surface just seems to be entirely made up of rocks and tree routes. No nice free flowing sections to speak of which makes the route a constant boneshaking nightmare.

Just wondered if anyone can recommend anywhere within a reasonable distance from Leeds that's a bit easier on the bones.

an evening spent pouring over your local OS Landranger map hunting out some good bridleways and rupps is time well spent...

I'd be interested in any alternatives to Dalby too!

Sherwood Pines near Mansfield is about an hour away I guess. Much less technical than Dalby. The Red is about 9 miles or so, probably best to string a few laps together. Decent cafe & plenty of parking.

Wharncliffe Woods is another decent place to ride. This is between Sheffield & Rotherham.

Your close to me IIRC Dave (Rothwell?)

Anyway Dalby is actually pretty good as trail centres go - plenty of bits towards the 2nd half are lovely and fast/flowing, lots of jumping and pumping?

Anway - Whinlatter is doable in 2 hours if the traffics ok, as its straight off the A66. Much more elevation, some fast open sections, great fun.

2 hours heading West instead gets you just about to Llandegla, which is very flowy and smooth.

Theres no other comparable man-made trails within an hour of Leeds.

Sherwood pines as mentioned above it down the A1 and is supposed to be ok but short/easy, its on my list to try in the next few weeks.

Other than that - its natural riding all the way, which is to say Dales, Peak district, North York moors etc, options galore.
